Executive Director (January 2014-Present)
Before being hired as Executive Director, Wade was a volunteer member of the USRWA Board of Directors from September 2012 to December 2013 in addition to doing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) consultant work for the organization. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Policy & Planning from UW-Green Bay in 2009 and has worked on a variety of environmentally related projects including watershed management, public land use, invasive species control, land restoration, urban tree inventories and stream bank assessments.
Wade also served on the Board of Directors for the Yahara River Grocery Cooperative in Stoughton for four years, and was President for two of those years. As a native of Neenah, Wade has lived in numerous places around Wisconsin including Wausau, Green Bay, Door County, Stoughton and now Madison. Wade is an avid Packers fan and Wisconsin beer aficionado (in that order), but also enjoys playing volleyball, cooking, traveling and being outside.
Marten J. Cieslik, P.E. (Marty)
President (March 2010-Present)
Marty Cieslik was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison receiving two Bachelor of Science degrees, the first from the College of Letters & Science (Geography) and the second from the College of Engineering (Civil & Environmental Engineering). He has worked in the environmental field for over 30 years with over 20 years in environmental consulting. He currently works for the City of Verona as the Assistant Director of Public Works. His duties at the City of Verona include public infrastructure construction inspection, storm water management and compliance. He is married with two daughters and lives with his wife Fran Keally in Madison.
Director (May 2016-Present)
Robert is a biologist, limnologist, ecologist and naturalist. Robert holds a BS in Science, Science Education and History and an MS in Biology from East Tennessee State University. Robert also holds a PhD in Zoology with emphasis on Ecology and Evolution from UW Madison. Robert’s professional career has included research, teaching and outreach to teachers, students and communities throughout Wisconsin. For the past 10 years much of Robert’s research and outreach has focused on urban limnology in the USRW, especially in Verona area storm water retention and detention ponds, as well as in Badger Mill Creek.
Treasurer (December 2012-Present)
Steve Gavin is Nuclear Medicine Technologist employed by St. Mary’s Hospital. He has three grown children and 5 grandchildren. With the help of family he is building a model railroad based on the former C&NW railway from Madison to Mount Horeb, currently part of the Military Ridge Bike Trail. He enjoys a variety of outdoor activities including bicycling, paddling, birding, and hiking. In addition to membership in the USRWA he has memberships in the Bombay Bicycle Club, Ice Age Trail Alliance, Nature Conservancy, and Sierra Club.
Secretary (March 2016-Present)
Scott, his wife Joan and their two sons live in Verona and frequently paddle the Sugar River; he grew up in Grafton, Wisconsin and has lived in the Madison area since 2000. Scott graduated from Western Michigan University in 1991 and has worked in the environmental consulting field since graduation. Currently he is Vice President – Senior Environmental Manager at KL Engineering, Inc. in Madison. Scott and his family are ardent outdoor enthusiasts, enjoying the paddling, hiking, cycling, skiing and many other outdoor opportunities the area offers. He has volunteered for numerous environmental organizations and causes and also is a volunteer and coach in the Verona Area School District.
Bill is employed by Payne and Dolan, Inc. The company operates a gravel pit in the watershed and has two asphalt plants in Dane County. He has been attending watershed meetings and/or has been on the Board since the mid 1990’s. Both Bill and his company believe strongly in protecting and preserving the natural assets we are so fortunate to have all around us. They are very proud of the work the Association and its members have done to improve the resource for everyone.
Director (December 2013-Present)
A native of Cannon Falls, MN, Rodd graduated in 1985 from UW-Madison with a degree in Agronomy and also completed a degree in automotive technology from Madison Area Technical College. He worked as an automotive technician for 25 years and remains interested in older muscle cars. Rodd currently serves on the Conservation Committee for Trout Unlimited and is an active member of Badger Fly Fishers. Rodd also maintains two sites as a volunteer water quality monitor for the Upper Sugar River Watershed Association and enjoys getting to know the general ecology of a stream. Along with fishing and cars, Rodd’s other hobbies include music and gardening. Rodd has been a resident and homeowner in Oregon, WI for over 20 years and is married with a daughter currently living as a foreign exchange student in Sweden.

Luke Diaz was born and raised in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. Luke is a firm believer in land stewardship and acting locally. His interests include native plants, responsible land use, hiking, and video games. He resides in Verona, Wisconsin with his wife Cheryl and son Tristan. He also has been a member of the Verona city council since 2013.
