Summary: Within the scope of the communications program are projects addressing the creation of communications strategy to protect the natural environment of the Bad River, working with (harvesters) to create access and sustainable use of natural environment, communications with regulatory staff protecting natural system processes for fish, wild rice, plants, endangered species habitat, and working with local communities creating sustainable economic approaches to water protection in the watershed.
This position is a great opportunity for high achieving, communications savvy person to work in a nonprofit, campaign driven public relations setting focused on water protection policy issues and solutions, nonprofit communications system and strategy, and the mechanics of writing and promoting to diverse audiences.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities including the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Defend the Bad River’s communications work supporting and protecting the natural environment of the Bad River by conducting research and managing information to support implementation of specific communication and media strategies.
Supporting social media activities and web content; and traditional media outreach mechanisms.
Participate in Bad River Watershed communications and partnership strategy discussion and follow-up.
Conduct research to identify key contacts in stakeholder groups and potential partners; help to create and maintain partnership and media lists and information.
Manage and develop print and other publications and presentations, including research, writing, design, and production related activities.
Improve knowledge management capacity (updating photo library for easy retrieval of specific subject matter, compiling, creating, and cataloging video, photos, graphic, and electronic mail for use in communications materials.)
Draft media releases.

Education and/or Experience:
Minimum of two (2) years undergraduate educational training in strategic communication, marketing, advertising, print or broadcast journalism, or communication; or pursing degree; or demonstrates experience in the above essential duties and responsibilities.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Ability to complete time sensitive assignments;
Independent and highly organized and able to create systems for collecting, organizing and retrieving information;
Demonstrated strong written and oral communications skills; and experience with social media such as development and management of material for websites, blogs, twitter, and facebook.
Background Check: This position is contingent on ability to pass background check required. This position requires a regular background check to be run.Subject to change based on needs from our Background Office.
